Her husband Donald Trump isn’t the only one to cause controversy in the media, as some of Melania Trump’s outfits get the rumour mill churning as well.

According to many journalists, Melania would supposedly pick out clothing items to make subtle statements about her husband’s presidency. Moreover, the cost of her outfits is also hot topic.

She certainly has expensive taste.

Melania’s style

Fashion designers love Melania Trump’s style. As her outfits aren’t paid for by tax money, many designers offer their goods and services for free. However, many of her outfits are also available in high-end stores, albeit with a steep price tag. These are some of the first lady’s most expensive outfits.

Manolo Blahnik Stiletto’s: $670

If you watched Sex and the City, you know that the sought-after Manolo Blahnik shoes are quite expensive. Melania Trump wore these high-end shoes in 2017 when she visited Texas with her husband after the hurricane Harvey.

Even though Donald Trump wore thick, waterproof boots, Melania wore high-heeled stilettos. This caused some controversy, but Melania did swap them for some sneakers when she arrived.

Balmain Blouse – $720

The 48-year-old First Lady invited ten children to the White House to help her garden in Michelle Obama’s vegetable patch.

Even though your mum would tell you to wear old clothes that are allowed to get dirty, Melania clearly doesn’t care about that. She wore an expensive designer blouse by the French brand Balmain to work in the garden. How logical.

Gucci Blouse – $1,100

‘Grab them by the pussy’ is one of Donald Trump’s most notorious quotes. Shortly after this infamous speech, Trump was to appear in a live debate with Hilary Clinton.

Melania picked this moment to wear a bright pink Gucci blouse with a loose bow around her neck.

The clothing item was soon known as the ‘pussy blouse’. Some thought that the First Lady picked this blouse to send a hidden message, but a spokesperson said that it was a coincidence.

Roksanda dress – $2,200

Melania wore a silk white dress at the Republican convention during the US presidential election in 2016.

This dress was designed by the Serbian designer Roksanda Ilincic, and it cost an alarming $2200. The garment was sold out a few hours after Melania’s speech.

Now you’d have to shell out about $1660. Melania also wore high heels by fashion designer Christian Louboutin, which cost about $700.

In September 2017 Melania spoke at the United Nations about cyberbullying. The first lady wore a fuchsia coloured dress by Delpozo. This dress would set you back about $2900.

When French president Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte visit the White House, you obviously want to look as elegant as possible.

It seems that the First Ladies agreed on matching that day, as they were both fully adorned in white.

Melania wore a suit by Michael Kors ($2200), a hat by Herveé Pierre (price unknown) and stilettos by Christian Louboutin ($780).

When meeting the Russian president Vladimir Putin in Helsinki in July 2018, Melania Trump wanted to look as expensive as possible. She wore a pastel coloured yellow coat by Gucci, which costs $3725.

Isoude coat – $4,000

When Donald and Melania Trump arrived in Helsinki, Melania looked like her model self. She wore a coat by Isoude that would have cost almost $4000.

Gown by J. Mendel – $7,000

During a dinner with the British Prime Minister Theresa May, Melania stole the show as a real Belle. She wore a yellow gown by designer J. Mendel. Buying this dress certainly isn’t cheap, as it would cost about $7000.

Monique Lhuillier dress – $8,150

The First Lady wore a beautiful Monique Lhuillier dress at The White House Historical Society dinner. The dress was sold out shortly after, but those who managed to get their hands on it would have paid $8150.

Blazer and skirt by Michael Kors – $9,700

It’s clear by now that Melania Trump loves designs by Michael Kors. During a meeting of the American Congress, she wore an outfit by the famous designer. She would have paid $5050 for the blazer and $4650 for the skirt.

Bally trousers, Manolo Blahnik stilettos, Birkin bag – $14,000

In 2017 Melania and her son Baron moved into the White House. At her arrival, she wore a pair of Bally trousers ($600) and Manolo Blahnik stilettos ($600). This is nothing compared to the bag she brought: her Birkin bag costs around $12,800.

Dolce & Gabbana coat – $51,500

Even though many praised Melania’s sense of fashion at the G7 top in Italy, her expensive Dolce & Gabbana coat brought on a stream of comments.

The ridiculously expensive coat cost $51,500, an amount most Americans don’t even earn on a yearly basis.

Hervé Pierre grown – unaffordable

Melania wanted to wear a dress that no one would forget at the inauguration of her husband Donald Trump. That’s why she contacted French designer Hervé Pierre to design a custom-made dress for her.

Hervé Pierre’s resumé is nothing less than spectacular, as he already designed gowns for First Ladies Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton. The dresses he makes for such occasions are unaffordable. Melania donated her dress tot he Smithsonian museum afterwards.
